Farralone Farms is a Thoroughbred horse rescue organization and we are located in Chatsworth, CA in the San Fernando Valley right off the 118 freeway. Immediately after rescue we assess our new horses to figure out their rehabilitation plan. Many need a month or two to just relax and eat plenty food. We have their teeth floated, feet trimmed, worming and vaccinations taken care of.
We do gelding surgeries if a stallion and take care of any health issues.. We have many wonderful retrained riding and companion horses available for adoption at any time. Some horses have exciting new careers and lives ahead of them in the show ring or on the trails. Others can not be ridden and will make fantastic companion horses and family pets. Please like our Facebook Page to keep up to date on all our rescues and to know the minute one of the residents becomes available for adoption. https://www.facebook.com/farralonefarms Sofos Quick Logic and Spooky Da Cat, 2009 geldings,The chestnut is Sofos - it is hard to believe that it is the same horse in the picture. Wesley's storyThis is the story of Wesley. A three yr old unbroke, severely emaciated Colt stallion that was at death's door. Someone dropped him at auction to be sold, but he was turned away by auction management deemed not fit to be sold. With the excellent help of our friends at Auction Rescue Horses, we loaded him onto our trailer without a second thought and began this journey with him. Today he is a happy and very healthy gelding who was started under saddle and is a joy to ride.

Sheep and Horses
Did you know that sheep make fantastic and easy to care for companions for horses? Kimberley from Lancaster recently adopted our two big girl sheep. These girls were rescued from a live stock auction on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Destined for to be hog tied and loaded in the flat bed truck of a backyard butcher we stepped in and took a chance on these two. We since discovered that sheep make excellent companions for horses. and are easy keepers. Please contact us if you are interested in adopting sheep!

I lost my older Percheron Draft horse in early December, Sparky. He was a magnificent, beautiful, gentle giant. Unfortunately, it seems he had a stroke and the outcome was not good for my beautiful boy. I walked him to the foot of the Rainbow Bridge so he could join my other horses and dogs, I know they were all on the other side waiting to greet him!
With this passing this leaves me with only one horse left, My beautiful Percheron mare, Montana. She was a PMU baby and I adopted her when she was 7 months old over 8 years ago. My beautiful girl came from a herd of over 100 horses to a herd of 3 horses and she made 4. Now she is finding herself with no herd, and she took it very hard. It broke my heart to hear her call for her herd until 11 pm the day we lost Sparky.
My vet recommended that I get her a companion or two, I let him know I wasn't ready for another horse and he suggested goat or sheep.
This is where Farralone Farms and my two new girls come into the picture! I adopted my two girls - Bella and Annie the second week of December. And all I can say is they have made the BEST companions for Montana.. Montana is so much more relaxed, she is not anxious at all, she no longer calls for me as I am walking away. The funniest thing happened and I couldn't believe my eyes! Usually horses when asleep are aware of their surroundings, lights and noises. Well, my big girl Montana was completely knocked out by the sheep, I mean knocked out! She didn't hear me walk back there, she didn't hear me open my hay barn, she didn't wake up until I got close to her and called her name! I think she was exhausted from all of the grieving the loss of Sparky and the week of being alone. Now she can finally rest, count her two sheep, and sleep since she has her new companions to keep her company.
I am so thankful for Farralone Farms and for my two new girls! They are docile, quiet, and easy keepers! I plan on the girls and Montana to continue to bond and build a long lasting relationship!
